Worst I got was it dropped from 40ms to 60ms, and even that wasn't all the time. If my computer has the same symptoms, then the trouble is likely the ISP, if it has no problem, then the wireless portion of my router is likely shot.Įdit4: OK, a computer attached to the router by ethernet doesn't loose any packets, even while streaming Netflix. Next step I'm going to do the same process with my main PC, since it is connected to the router via ethernet. Seeing as how the trouble doesn't show up immediately, I went and tried my wife's computer again, same process as before, and it took about 45 seconds before it started dropping all packets and netflix freezes. Then I close everything except for command prompt, and it eventually goes back to normal.Įdit2: By doing the same thing over, I found that the USB2 port lasts a bit longer before crapping out, and the internet comes back up faster after it dies.Įdit3: Sorry, even after asking for help, I'm still troubleshooting, and I've narrowed it down a bit more. Until the stream starts to falter, and everything goes to crap. Then I bring up Netflix or whatever, and as soon as I try to stream, the ping starts timing out or going to 2000 - 4000. And I let it go through a few pages of that. I can bring up command prompt, and 'ping /t' and it is going good, about 40ms. As long as it is just sitting, it appears to be fine. I don't think it is heat related, it's a new system, good airflow and almost no components.Įdit: Seems to only go down if I try and use it. but then it crapped out on the second window, and I couldn't ping Google again. Can someone point me in the right direction?Īfter typing all that up, I went back to the living room, and it looked like it was working! I could ping Google, and I could pull up a webpage. I'm not even sure what to google to search for help.

My best guess is something inside Windows 7 圆4 Home network stack or something has gotten screwed up. I've changed the adapter, the brand of the adapter, the USB port, software. It still says I have a good signal and great signal quality. But then I can't get the web to pull up anything. So I figure I'll just use that until I can order a better one.

It shows a signal of 70% and a link quality of 95%. So I build the wireless adapter into the utility rather then the regular window. It connects! I reboot and it fails to connect.

so I take my micro adapter out of my raspberry pi, put the driver on a USB drive, install the driver (and the utility) and plug it in. OK, so I do some research on google for this model and I occasionally find someone else having the same trouble. Rebooting just takes it back to not being able to connect. I eject it, delete the driver, re-download it, and reinstall. So I'm thinking maybe there is a problem with the drivers. I keep trying and it goes back and forth between telling me my passkey is mismatched (it isn't) or that it just can't connect to the router (troubleshooting gives me nothing). I try pinging Google and it is losing all the packets again.

and then it drops out all together again.

Woohoo! So I go back to my streaming show and it starts back up.

I had to put the password back in, and I get a connection. Open it up, plug it in, and it doesn't work at first. By coincidence I have a second adapter of the same model brand new in the wrapper. So at this point, I'm thinking maybe this USB wireless adapter had blown. Went to wife's computer and verified that she was still connecting to the wireless router well, no dropped packets, etc. So I tried a cold reboot, tried moving it to a different USB port on a different controller (USB 3 to USB 2), even went over to my main computer and logged into the router to reboot it. yes, the internet connection had dropped. I tried going to another tab and searching to see if the page was down, but the other tab didn't come up. Watching some streaming video over the internet for a couple of hours, then it just went to buffering and never cleared. Was using a Belkin F9L1001v1 N150 Wireless USB Adapter. The symptoms are showing up in my fairly new (couple of months old) HTPC. I'm really hoping the trouble is something simple that I've overlooked.
